Private Portrait Commissions in Ottawa

Portrait artist Jérôme Scullino welcomes individuals, couples and families from across the National Capital Region for private portrait commissions at his photo studio in South Ottawa. Selected portraits are completed as framed monochrome portraiture or original mixed-media artwork, created to live with your family for generations.

A Portrait Commission at the JÉRÔME Photo Studio in Ottawa

Whether it is a family portrait commission, a couple's portrait or an individual sitting, the starting point is the same. It is not a pose or a style. It is who matters, how you are connected and why you want to make the portrait.

Jérôme guides the session from beginning to end, paying attention to expression, gesture and the familiarity between you. In fact, posing becomes unnecessary when what is already beautiful is allowed to be seen.

The portraits are shown at a private same-day viewing in the studio. You select the portraits you want to live with and consider how they may be completed — as framed monochrome portraiture or original mixed-media artwork for your home.

Something true came through. I didn’t expect that.

From Portrait Photography to Finished Artwork

There is a moment in every commission when the portraits move from something seen on the screen to something imagined in physical form. From there, the question becomes how the selected portraits should be completed — as framed monochrome portraiture, a bound collection or an original mixed-media artwork. For families seeking fine art family portraits in Ottawa, monochrome portraiture is the most timeless place to begin.

Framed Monochrome Portraiture

A monochrome portrait remains entirely photographic. Jérôme prints each selected portrait with pigment inks on cotton rag, then completes it as a framed work or bound collection.

Original Mixed-Media Artwork

An original mixed-media artwork begins with a JÉRÔME original portrait. Nisha brings it into physical form through pigment, oil and beeswax, working the surface by hand. Each finished artwork is one of a kind.

JÉRÔME Portrait Studio Ottawa

Ottawa is where this work began — our first studio in Canada, opened in 2002. It is where we learned the heart of it: patience, attention, and respect for the subtle. Everything that followed — Toronto, Miami, Montreal, the work itself — grew from here.

Today, we receive clients by appointment in South Ottawa, at Colonnade — a professional space arranged for both the portrait session and the private same-day viewing. The studio is where your portrait begins, and where you first see it become an artwork.

Clients come from across the National Capital Region, including the Glebe, Westboro, Rockcliffe Park, Old Ottawa South, Kanata and Barrhaven. Many also come from Chelsea, Wakefield, Gatineau and the Outaouais. Whether you began your search for a portrait photographer in Ottawa or arrived here through the work itself, each begins as portrait photography in the hands of an artist — and is completed as an heirloom for the wall of your home.

Planning Your Ottawa Portrait Session

Allow approximately two hours for the complete studio appointment, including the portrait session, a short pause and the private viewing. Appointments are reserved in advance.

Before the appointment, we will ask you to consider who should be included and what you want the portrait to preserve. If you are considering artwork for a particular wall, measurements and a simple phone photograph of the room are useful.

You do not need to decide on the size, format or finish beforehand. Those decisions are made after you have seen the portraits.

If you are considering a fine art portrait commission in Ottawa, begin with a conversation. You can ask questions, discuss who should be included and understand the experience before choosing a date.

You do not need to know exactly what the portrait will become. Simply tell us who it is for, and why it matters now.
