Artistic portraits and mixed-media artworks on cotton rag

Artistic portraits are where photography, painting and sculpture meet. Each piece begins as a black and white portrait, then is worked by hand with beeswax and oil pigments on cotton rag. The result is a tactile, one of a kind artwork that feels like it has always belonged in your home.

ONE OF A KIND

Each encaustic mixed-media artwork is created as a single original, not an edition. The wax, pigments and hand-sculpted surface make it impossible to reproduce in exactly the same way.

For carefully curated projects we will sometimes create a colour piece, when it serves the story and the space where the artwork will live.

What is a Mix Media Artwork?

The technique uses layers of melted organic beeswax applied by hand over the original photograph to build up a textured surface. The artist sculpts the wax and carefully blends in oil pigments and resins to create a painterly effect. The result is a vibrant three dimensional work of art that cannot be duplicated with any kind of digital software.
