A Trichromatic Portrait Study

Kristen’s commission brought together both sides of the studio practice: a collection of monochrome portraits and one Trichromatic Mixed-Media artwork.

The monochrome portraits reduced the sitting to presence — restrained, direct, and essential. They became a custom-bound collection of ten images, held together as a body of work.

The Trichromatic piece began from a different impulse. It was not a colour version of a photograph, but a colour concept carried from the sitting into the final surface. In these works, colour is not decorative. It gives emotional dimension to the portrait — a way of interpreting what is perceived beneath the surface.

For Kristen, the result was a 32-inch Trichromatic Mixed-Media Artwork: a portrait that moved beyond likeness into memory, tenderness, and presence.
